Designing for Value

Designing for Value

I’m a designer, but a business person first. My approach always starts with two questions: What does the customer need? and How will this affect the bottom line? These questions have evolved with each project, but they’ve consistently helped me focus on what truly matters—building experiences that are both meaningful for users and valuable for the business.

Over the 8 years, I’ve learned how to create clarity in ambiguous, high-pressure environments—whether it’s defining the real problem, validating assumptions, or aligning a team around what “good” looks like.

I’ve worked through 30% company-wide reductions and even bankruptcy, so I’m deeply aware of the need to balance profitability with thoughtful design. But one thing remains non-negotiable: I need to be able to proudly stand behind the work I put into the world.

Very rarely do we get to follow the textbook process in a straight line. I’m comfortable adjusting the plan—but just as importantly, ensuring that PM, engineering, and stakeholders stay aligned, confident, and informed as we adapt.

My goal is always the same: keep us moving with clarity, even when the constraints are changing.

I quickly fall in deep tunnels with anything art or math related. Lately I've been coding knitting patterns: designing the garment, designing the pattern, codifying it, and trying to get a knitting machine from 1974 'run' the code. Fun fact: our current coding style has a lot to do with the original knitting machine 'technology'!

For me, the joy of being an adult is passionately learning what you want to learn and collecting hobbies. It keeps my brain flexible in the best ways.
